This is my second post on this topic, I came across an article in the section Education Plus of the newspaper The Hindu ( Hyderabad Edition), which shows a photo of a project and a small article on it which is completed by some students from DVR college of Engineering.
The students have developed a system that can convert your morning workout energy to electrical energy. The system can also store the generated power in a battery so that it can be used whenever required.
The system just looks similar to a bi-cycle. The power is generated by pedalling. As mentioned the model has a transmission ratio of 8. If a person paddles for half an hour, the generated power is suffeicient to light up two tube lights and a fan for two hours. The approximate cost s mentioned as Rs. 8,500/- I think it is reasonable for a Gym Owner to buy it.
I see it is a good model and should be encouraged, so that this can be made more optimized for better power generation. My idea is, this system should also be implemented in other workout systms of Gym, I hope it can done by using adjustable pulleys, belts, etc… so that a person can adjust the system according to his energy level during workout.
Results could be that if a Gym implements this systems, he can earn more by selling the generated electricity by peopple workouts or he can even make his Gym free for people and sell electricity. I think this should be calculated.
The earlier post I posted on this topic was in the month of September(2009) Dated 20.
